Connecting an audio/video device

Audio/video devices include: Blu-ray Disc™ player, DVD player, VCR, camcorder, Apple® TV, cable/satellite box, etc.

There are several types of video cables to use when setting up your system. HDMI providea the highest quality, followed by Component, S-Video and Composite.

Connecting the media center to the TV

  • Insert one end of the video cable into the "VIDEO OUT to TV" jack
  • Insert the other end of the video cable into an available input located on the back of your TV. This is an example using an HDMI® cable:

Making video connections from your audio/video device(s) to the Bose® system

The connection type from the media center console to the TV may impact the connection types that you can use from your external device(s) into the media center inputs. Below is a chart that explains this:

Video connections

Once you have chosen the type of video connection, follow the instructions below that pertain to the video cable of choice.

connecting a device using an hdmi cable

hdmi carries both audio and video signals. there is no need for extra audio cables when using hdmi.

  • connect an hdmi cable from the video out on the back of your audio/video device (commonly marked hdmi out) to an available video input section with hdmi on the bose console: (dvd or cbl-sat)

connecting a device using component cables

when connecting an audio/video device using the component video cables, you must make sure to connect the audio to the same input source as the video on the media console. for example, when connecting a satellite box to the cbl/sat component video inputs, you must connect the audio cables to the cbl/sat inputs located in the audio in section on the back of the media center console.

  • connect the red, blue and green plugs of a component cable from your device's component video out jacks (commonly marked "y pb pr") to an available video input section on the bose console
  • make your audio connections. there are three possible output connections on your audio/video device: digital optical, digital coax (or s/pdif) or analog. if your device has all three options, choose either digital coax or optical for the best for audio quality. see below for audio connections

connecting a device using an s-video cable

when connecting an audio/video device using the s-video video cable, you must make sure to connect the audio to the same input source as the video on the media center console. for example, when connecting a satellite box to the cbl-sat component video inputs, you then must connect the audio cables to the cbl-sat inputs located in the audio in section on the back of the media center console.

  • connect an s-video cable from the s-video video output of of you audio/video device to an available video input section on the bose console
  • make your audio connections. there are three possible output connections on your audio/video device: digital optical, digital coax (or s/pdif) or analog. if your device has all three options, choose either digital coax or optical for the best for audio quality. see below for audio connections

connecting a device using a composite cable

when connecting an audio/video device using the composite video cable, you must make sure to connect the audio to the same input source as the video on the media center console. for example, when connecting a satellite box to the cbl-sat component video inputs, you then must connect the audio cables to the cbl-sat inputs located in the audio in section on the back of the media center console.

  • connect a composite video cable from the composite video output of your audio/video device to an available video input section on the bose console
  • make your audio connections. there are three possible output connections on your audio/video device: digital optical, digital coax (or s/pdif) or analog. if your device has all three options, choose either digital coax or optical for the best for audio quality. see below for audio connections

Audio Connections

Once you have chosen the type of audio connection, follow the instructions below that pertain to the audio cable of choice.

making a digital optical connection

some optical cables come with a protective cover. make sure to remove the cover before making your connections.

  • connect an optical cable (not provided with your system) from your device's the optical or digital audio output to the same input section on the bose console where the device's video cables are connected. for example, if you connect the component video cables to cbl-sat, connect the optical to the audio in marked cbl-sat

making a digital coax connection

the "coax" jack on the bose console is part of the "dvd" section. use this input for device's connected to "dvd" on the console. the "coax assignable" jack can be used for the tv, vcr, cbl-sat or aux sections on the console.

  • If connecting to the DVD section on the Bose console, connect a digital coax cable from the device's digital coax (or S/PDIF) output to the "Coax" input on the Bose console
  • If connecting to an section other than "DVD" on the Bose console, connect a digital coax cable from the device's digital coax (or S/PDIF) output to the "Coax Assignable" input on the Bose console. Then, assign the audio to a section on the console:

on the lifestyle® system remote, press system to display the "system menu" on your tv

press the right arrow to highlight the "media center" icon

press the down arrow to scroll to "coaxial source"

press the right arrow, then the up arrow or down arrow, to select the source (tv, vcr, cbl-sat or aux) that is connected to the coax assignable input jack and press enter

press exit to leave the system menu

making an analog connection

connect the red and white plugs of an rca cable from the device's audio out jacks to the same input section on the bose console where the device's video cables are connected
